Mankind UK is a support and resource service for men who have been sexually
abused, sexually assaulted and/or raped. It is a National UK charitable
organisation based in Newhaven, East Sussex, established to provide counselling
and support for victims of male rape, male sexual assault and violence,as
well as sex abuse support for men.
On a National basis, we research sexual abuse, both in childhood and adulthood,
provide a web site, offer specialist training to agencies both in the
public and private sectors and provide a telephone helpline.
In addition to our activities on a National basis, we can offer in Sussex,
support and information, counselling, and a drop in service for all male
survivors of sexual assault / sex abuse/ male rape.
Why Mankind UK came into being
Mankind UK developed from a need for an organisation that dealt with
male sexual abuse and assault in Sussex, and grew to National proportions
with regard to research, networking, the web site and the helpline.
Male sexual abuse/ male rape is widely denied by Society at large, the
proof is in the UK Government/Police figures, which are based on the number
of cases taken to court, which is in the region of 1%.National Surveys
suggest that 8% of the male population are sexually abused. Experts believe
that 20% is a more credible figure, and it could be higher.
Unwanted
Sexual Activity
- Can
take many forms which may or may not involve violence.
- Can
involve men or women as perpetrators.
- May
cause problems later, whether it felt good or bad at the time.
Society’s
lack of understanding about the size of the problem together with the
pressure on men to appear "macho" may increase the feelings
of confusion, guilt, shame, doubt, etc., that male survivors experience.
Mankind UK pledge a commitment to male survivors of sexual abuse/ male
rape and sexual assault.
